National Education Research Agenda - Kenya

Kenya’s National Education Research Agenda (NERA) sets a clear, coordinated direction for education research in Kenya. Developed as part of the broader Harnessing Education Research for Impact (HERI) Africa initiative, NERA reflects a growing continental commitment to strengthening Africa-led research that is closely aligned with national priorities, policy needs, and the realities of education systems.

NERA was developed through an inclusive and consultative process that brought together key education stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Government Agencies, and universities in Kenya. Drawing on national policy and strategic documents and refined through validation engagements such as the 2025 Education Evidence for Action (EE4A) Conference, the agenda captures shared priorities and emerging research needs across the sector.

NERA serves as a tool for aligning research efforts, improving coordination, and strengthening collaboration between evidence producers and users. By focusing on the areas that matter most for policy and practice, it provides a pathway for ensuring that education research in Kenya is not only relevant, but also impactful—supporting better decision-making, more efficient use of resources, and improved education outcomes for all.
